Intermediate Oboe Comparison

Shopping for an oboe can be a daunting task. Considering that many stores do not keep a selection in stock for customers to test out, most people have to rely on internet stores in order to purchase these instruments. Here at Kessler & Sons, we are double reed players. We have scoured the market looking for the best playing instruments and work out arrangements to get them at the best price possible. We have found that the intermediate oboes that stand out to us (based on performance) are:

You the customer though are unlikely to get a chance to really compare them side by side. We have and find that all 3 are great oboes. All of these oboes are great instruments. For us, the Rigoutat Delphine and the Schreiber 7060 are the best values. Specifically, the Delphine as it uses a professional Rigoutat bore that gives the tonal performance of a professional oboe for the price of an intermediate.

The Schreiber is a great value at $2,199, but as Schreiber is now owned by Buffet, the Schreiber branded oboe will not be available after we sell out of our remaining stock. At $2,199, it is the best oboe value we can offer currently.

For those who are looking for a lower cost but still high performance instrument, you should take a look at our Kessler Custom Full Conservatory oboe. It has every key option available, uses a special Grenadilla/Nylon synthetic resin and a professional Marigaux inspired bore. This oboe is the best low cost value as it sells brand new at $1,195.
