The intermediate flute market
has changed quite drastically over the past 10 years. More and more
manufacturers are starting to put more effort into their headjoint design thus
producing higher performance flutes while still maintaining a moderate price
range. Because of this industry change, we feel the term "intermediate" is no
longer accurate to describe the offerings in the market. Instead, we seperate
this market into 2 categories each with 2 sub-groups (Solid Silver Headjoint or
Solid Silver Body):

These flutes are more similar to the
traditional design that the term "intermediate" indicated. These models
are your first step up from student models. However, even now in this
segment we are finding more advanced designs trcikling down (the Galway
Spirit models for example) |

This category of flutes now is one that we feel
offers the best values on the market. These are flutes that feautre
advanced headjoint design but and other advanced features but are being
made to fit the traditional "intermediate" price range. Typically, a
flute that we classify as an "Advanced Intermediate" with ONLY a Solid
Silver headjoint will still outperform an All Silver "Step Up" level
flute. This is due solely the better headjoints on this level of flute.
Many stores and manufacturers will actually call this level
of flute "professional". |

The Galway
Spirit is the newest product
offering from the collaboration of
professional flautist Sir James
Galway and Conn-Selmer, Inc. The
Spirit models are completely made in
the USA and feature a more
professional caliber headjoint cut
as well as Cooper scale (this is
what is used on many of the worlds
top handmade flutes). The JG2 is an
open hole, silver plated model and
can be had with either a low C or B
foot. Even though this flute is
simple a silver plated headjoint and body, its design is so far superior
that it outperforms many all solid silver flutes. This is one of the best
values on the flute market today!
