Professional Clarinet Repair Service
by Kessler & Sons Music

featuring:

New Valentino "Master Series" Pads
Designed for Professional Musicians!

Backun Bells & Barrels

When we opened in 1989, Kessler & Sons Music was primarily a woodwind repair specialty shop. Headed by Chuck Kessler, our repair facilities are one of the best available with only the highest caliber of technician. As dealers for Buffet, Leblanc & Selmer Paris, we are used to dealing with everything from old student model to top end professional models of today. Many musicians all around the country will only trust their professional instrument repairs to our shop.

We commonly get customers who call wanting to purchase a new instrument because their older professional clarinet just "isn't the same anymore" as it once was. Most feel that their only avenue into getting back to a high end instrument is by replacing their current clarinet with a new one. Sadly, this is because many of them have never had their instrument properly rebuilt or overhauled in it's life.

Kessler & Sons Music would rather restore and overhaul your professional clarinet than sell you a new one!

Please call Dave Kessler via our toll free number (or email) to discuss restoring your clarinet to the best level that it can be. If you would like to schedule a repair, please call us.

Repairs

Playing Condition Job
Typical Cost: $30 - $50

Does your clarinet just need a good servicing? Did you know that proper maintenance of your clarinet can vastly extend the life of the pads as well as provide you with better performance for a longer period of time?

We recommend having your clarinet serviced once a year as preventative maintenance. This involves re-seating pads, replacing a few pads, corks, felts, checking the fits of keys and tenons as a general maintenance. Typically, this costs in the $30-$50 price range but varies depending on the amount of work needed.

Intermediate Upgrade / Minor Overhaul
Typical Cost: $150

Commonly, good intermediate wood clarinets can benefit from having better pads installed in the upper joint of the clarinet. One of the most known and available intermediate wood clarinets is the Buffet E11 (German made). These clarinets, even when new, GREATLY benefit from having a great pad, like the Valentino "Master Series" installed in the upper joint.

This job is considered a "minor overhaul". We replace all the pads in the upper joint with the Master Series pads. This gives more stability to the air column in the instrument giving better vibrance and responsiveness. This is a great way to get more performance from your intermediate wood clarinet!

This job can be performed on any wood clarinet from any of the major manufacturers and typically costs in the $150 price range. If additional work is needed in the lower joint but not a complete repad, we would have to see the instrument to quote a final price. We can also further upgrade the performance of the instrument with a Backun barrel!

E11 Upgrade with Backun Barrel
Typical Cost: $249

We commonly see people wanting to improve the performance of their Buffet E11 clarinets but cant afford to buy a new $2,000+ new clarinet!

With this E11 upgrade job, we repad the entire upper joint with the new Valentino "Master Series" professional pads and we fit a new Backun Protege barrel (customer choice of length and material). You will get a bigger, richer and more responsive sound then you ever thought possible out of your E11!

This job runs $249.

Extra cost may apply depending on pad condition of the lower joint. This job can be done on other intermediate clarinet other than the E11, we simply list it as it is the most common intermediate clarinet that we see for repair.

Professional Overhaul with Backun Upgrade

Backun Bells & Barrels

We also offer further improvement of your clarinet with new barrels and bells available made by Backun Musical Services in Canada. These bells and barrels will fundamental change the performance of your clarinet bringing it in line with modern professional instruments. You can also choose to have us package the bells and/or barrels with your overhaul for an even better savings.

Once overhauled, we will personally fit and select a barrel and bell (based on your preferences requested) and ship them along with the clarinet. You will be amazed at the finished product. You will find that your clarinet will feel like a completely new instrument, for a THIRD of what a good professional clarinet new would cost!

While the repair is final, you still do have a 3 day trial period on the bell and/or barrel. If you find that do not like the new bell/barrel with your overhaul, you are able to send them back for a refund. Please email for refund amounts as they will differ depending on the exact product.

Please call or e-mail for a quote on Backun products combined with an overhaul.
