This is a Selmer Paris Reference 54 alto sax in excellent condition.

It has been recently overhauled with white Kangaroo skin pads with metal domed resonators (with rivet). We did not perform the actual repad but we have put it through our shop to ensure that every adjustment is perfect on the horn just as if we had performed the repad. We are also including a 1 year pads & adjustments warranty on the horn through our Pro Shop.

Why Kangaroo skin pads? This is a topic of much debate among players and technicians. There are claims that they stick less and that they affect the sound. While we do feel that they seem to darken the tone of the horn a bit, we cannot yet pass judgement on the stickiness claims. However, what we can say is that the Kangaroo skin leather is signficantly stronger than typical pad leather. To us, this means that these pads will last longer. As for the color in white, this does add a little more to the overall cosmetic look to the horn, which we never really though possible as the Reference is a stunning horn to begin with!

What does our Professional Setup do for you the customer?

No horn comes into our shop from the manufacturers in perfect adjustment. In fact, the longer that the horns have sat in a storage facility or on a shops shelves, the more out of adjustment they typically are. This is due to the felt and leather in the pads losing the compression that forms the "pad seat" causing leaks of air through the pads.

Our Professional Setup prior to shipping is done to ensure that you receive a sax that plays perfectly right out of the box. This way you get the superior performance of the sax without having to have it "setup" by some other technician. As a professional shop, one of the biggest requirements falls on the repair abilities of the shop. Ours is one of the best around!
