Sonus: Latin for "The Sound" Our new Kessler Custom Sonus alto sax is named after its most impressive feature, its sound! They are designed for the player who wants the larger, broader style tone found from early American vintage horns as well as modern Keilwerth saxes, but also wants modern intonation, responsiveness, mechanics and materials. We uses our 85% copper content Red Brass for a fat, resonant sound with more presence than what is found out of most modern horns. Completely handmade, these models give excellent resonance and responsiveness. The Sonus models also feature soldered tone hole rims (like modern Keilwerth saxes) to give a richer resonance, especially in the lower end of the horn. Sonus model necks use a unique neck bore for improved resonance and response. Mechanically, they are equipped with a G# lifting mechanism to eliminate sticky G#. They feature double arm construction on the low C, B & Bb keys and the horn is also equipped with a reinforced left hand pinky cluster. The Sonus models are finished in a new "Vintage Dark Brown" lacquer over top the Red Brass with hand engraving on the bell, bell rim and the bow. The Vintage Dark Brown lacquer is reminiscent of original lacquer from an early Mark VI that has aged. The pictures do not do this finish justice. The lacquer has a slight speckling to it like vintage aged lacquer does. Combined with the Abalone pearls, this horn absolutely breathtaking to behold, and even better to play!
