Mouthpiece is
THE MOST important piece of equipment for the
saxophone player. Our Kessler Custom line of
mouthpieces are designed for specific styles of
performance and musicality. This model is our
"50 New York". It is our premier "Intermediate
Jazz" mouthpiece for alto sax.
First, this
mouthpiece kit is a combination of 3 proven
vintage jazz designs rolled into one mouthpiece.
It is ideal for 2 types of players:
- Student making their first jump in to jazz,
coming from their sax's stock mouthpiece or a
concert mouthpiece.
- Advanced
player who wants a brighter rubber style jazz
mouthpiece.
The 50% Rubber &
50% Plastic composite material is on par with
what many makers simply call "rubber". This
material helps us keep our cost down while
providing a richer tone than just plastic. It
has a grayish color to it.
Vintage
Design Inspiration 1 - Facing
We use
our professional vintage Meyer Bros. New York 5M
(equivalent to a modern day 7 at a .079" tip)
facing with a good rollover baffle. This facing
is extremely responsive with a softer reed (2
1/2 for most players) and responds very
favorably with a great jazz reed like the
Vandoren V16 and the improved Rico Jazz Select
reeds.
Vintage
Design Inspiration 2 - Chamber
The
chamber is based off of a vintage Brilhart
design with 2 straight sidewalls and rounded top
and bottom walls. This allows for more air than
a typical student mouthpiece but doesn't require
the air volume of top end professional
mouthpieces. This allows students and
intermediate players to simply relax and play!
More advanced players will find that this
chamber gives a slightly edgier tone than a
traditional round chamber pro jazz mouthpiece
similar to some metal mouthpieces but with the
comfort and cost of rubber.
Vintage
Design Inspiration 3 - Ligature
Lastly, we have made special arrangements with
Rico to be able to provide their high
performance "H-Ligature" (gold plate, with
fitted cap) with this mouthpiece. In retail
stores, this ligature and cap have a retail
value of OVER $50 -
but is included for FREE with our mouthpiece!
This ligature is a modern design based on the
vintage Harrison ligatures and offers excellent
reed vibration while maintaining a good reed
seal and a warm tone. This ligature is a GREAT
improvement from standard ligatures giving
longer reed life (from lack of center pressure
on the reed) and a richer tone with greater
presence to your sound.
In the end, this
mouthpiece and ligature combination is a sure
fire hit with any level of player and is
guaranteed to impress!
